Mya Natalya Teesdale, born on February 13, 2008, passed away suddenly on August 21, 2024, leaving behind a community forever touched by her warmth, kindness, and brilliance. Though her time with us was tragically short, Mya's life was filled with love, laughter, and an unyielding spirit that inspired everyone she encountered. Mya was a light in the lives of her family and friends. She was the cherished daughter of Regina and Sean Teesdale and a beloved sister to her younger brother, Michael. Mya was a bright and extraordinary student at Cheshire High School, known for her academic excellence and her deep passion for subjects such as law, English, history, and psychology. She enjoyed engaging in profound conversations with others about these topics, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met. Mya's talents extended beyond academics. She was a gifted entertainer whose performances often left audiences in awe of her talent, evoking emotions that transcended words. Her dedication to her craft was only matched by her kindness to others-always willing to help a classmate or share a piece of advice. Mya's involvement in her school community was extensive; she was an active mentor and a member of the fencing club, Link Crew, Mock Trial, Winter Fest, and Baking Club, to name a few.
Mya's heart was as big as her smile. She had a unique ability to form meaningful relationships with people of all ages and abilities, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew her. Her friends describe her as someone who made everyone feel seen and valued, with a smile that could light up the darkest room and a laugh that was contagious. One teacher wrote, "Mya gave meaning to the day and light to the dark."
Her passions extended to various hobbies and interests. Mya enjoyed reading, cooking, hosting get-togethers, shopping, joking around with her brother, watching Korean dramas with her mom, participating in theater, and spending genuine time with her father. She never missed cooking a special dinner and dessert for her family on special days, ensuring that every moment spent together was thoughtful and memorable. Mya's vibrant, witty, and loving personality made her a delightful friend and role model.
Mya's presence was magnetic, drawing in even the shyest of souls. Her zest for life was apparent in everything she did, from her adventurous spirit to her quiet moments of reflection. Mya had a profound love for people and often spoke of pursuing a career in activism, a dream she carried with her until the end. Her untimely departure has left a void that can never be filled, but her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Mya leaves behind in this life her proud and loving father, Sean, her devoted mother, Regina, and her adoring younger brother, Michael. She is also survived by her grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a wide circle of friends and teachers who will continue to honor her memory.
The Teesdale family extends their deepest gratitude to the community for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mya's name to the Mya Natalya Scholarship Fund, which seeks to improve the lives of young girls as they pursue a career in social activism, a cause Mya held close to her heart.
Mya Teesdale's life, though brief, was a testament to the power of love, empathy, and living with purpose. We feel truly blessed to have had the gift of Mya as parents, and we are certain this is not the last mark our angel will leave in the lives of others. Our My My's memory will forevermore be cradled in our hearts. We love you, Mya, infinitely. She will be deeply missed, and her spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
